A novel antibacterial benzimidazolium hexachlorotellurate hybrid compound: Experimental-theoretical characterization

Inspired by the antibacterial properties of recent hybrid materials containing hexahalogenotellurate anions, a novel compound, formulated as (C7H7N2)2TeCl6.(H2O)2 (T3), was synthesized slow evaporation from mixture tellurium dioxide and HCl added to benzimidazole solution at room temperature. T3 fully characterized using various methods such X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD & XRPD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis), Mass (MS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The single crystal showed that crystallizes in monoclinic P21/m space group with good reliability factor its structure is organized an alternation hexachlorotellurate octahedral polyhedra {TeCl6} benzimidazolium planes {C7H7N2} joined together through hydrogen bonds ensure cohesion overall stability. Exhaustive vibrational optical studies were performed absorption temperature UV–vis spectroscopies, respectively. In ultraviolet area has three signals corresponding charge transfers organic part, between inorganic moieties, complex, computationally confirmed. Theoretical calculations also reveal HOMO-LUMO gap 3.95 eV, large enough indicate stability against intramolecular electron excitation. Thermogravimetric data thermal decomposition analysed revealing weight loss occurs stages. An isoconversional method used for computing activation energy variation along decomposition. Finally, main feature T3, activity Escherichia coli Staphylococcus aureus stains been tested confirmed after incubation 24 h 37 °C diluted different concentrations (0.5–2 mg/ml) ethanol or dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO).
